Best Corner Electric Fireplace – 5 Best – 2018 Review

Does that corner in your living room look plain? Is it a bit breezy in there, too? Well, this is a review dedicated to the best corner electric fireplace money can buy and will go into detail about the 5 best you will come across when shopping. Whether you are looking for one that doubles as a TV stand or mantel, has a remote control included, can be configured for a corner AND a wall, one that fits your budget requirements, or you’re looking to splurge on an electric fireplace for your lonely corner. Whatever the reason, stay tuned for a little more detail on the pros and cons of the modern corner electric fireplace that can help you while you do your research.

The Best Corner Electric Fireplace Criteria:

  • Overall Aesthetics
  • Realistic/Lifelike
  • Heater BTU’s
  • Affordable/High-End

Though this review gives you an understanding of what the best rated electric fireplace heaters out there are and how they match up with others – what is aesthetically pleasing, realistic, or affordable for one is different for another, and cold-blooded people tend to think it’s hotter than it really is. However, if you continue reading you will find, like we did, that the best of the 5 is Southern Enterprises’ Redden and Walker Edison’s Highboy for their own respective reasons. The other three only trail the top by a minimal margin and because of minor drawbacks which we will explain later in this review. Each on the list will provide specific advantages compared to the others: if you are looking to heat a large area, trying to impress your neighbors, need it to double as a media center, or want the most energy efficient electric fireplace.

Southern Enterprise’s Redden Corner Electric Fireplace TV Stand

The Redden by Southern Enterprise is the favorite on this list as it is the most elegant and realistic looking corner electric fireplace – mainly due to the lifelike stone it uses to outline the fireplace. As the best on the list it also turns out to be the most expensive you’ll find on here.

The main advantage of this fireplace is its Quartz Infrared Heater. It is the strongest on the list because it can evenly distribute heat to areas up to 1000 square feet and do so as the most energy efficient electric fireplace that made the cut for this piece. It has an automatic shutoff when the desired heat is reached, retains humidity, and even has a child safety lock. It also comes with a remote which you can use to adjust almost every aspect of the presentation to your desired setting : the heat, flame, sound, log, and downlight. Another advantage is that it is a “convertible” fireplace so it can be placed in the corner or against the wall.

A few downsides to the Redden are its storage capabilities, fake stone, and the price. The space provided on the sides are more so prepared for displaying a few special items and not meant for all the electronics you’ll find in a household this day and age. In the case of the stone, just don’t let your neighbors or mother touch it to find out the truth. Lastly, the price is high, but you get a lot in return: you get a realistic look with the most efficient and strongest heater on the list.

Pros

  • Powerful Quartz Infrared Heater
  • Automatic Shutoff
  • Convertible for Wall Use

Cons

  • Storage is a bit limited but not terrible
  • The fake stone vs real
  • Expensive compared to the competition

W Designs Highboy Corner Electric Fireplace TV Stand

The Highboy from Walker Edison makes this list because it is very balanced among the others. It is on the cheaper side when compared to the others but has the most storage capacity out of all 5. The Highboy is the best for those that want a more versatile option that can double as both a fireplace and TV stand, or media center. This stems from the fact that the electric fireplace is more of an added accessory to a media center than vice versa.

It has a cable management system and the storage space takes up most of the sides and top, so it will be able to handle even the most tech savvy people out there. As the most “Ikea-like”, the Highboy brings a simple finish and would be a great option for those that want to utilize it as best they can while not looking like they are trying to impress too much.

The cons about the highboy are that it does not come with a remote, and even if it did have a remote, it has no temperature control to adjust. Unfortunately, it does not have the reach that an infrared heater has, reaching up to around 400 square feet.

If you want to make the easiest decision and not have to think too hard about it, then we recommend the Walker Edison’ Highboy, it is the cheapest and has a lot more functionality than just a fireplace. But, if you can’t be bothered to get off the couch because of the lack of remote, we recommend choosing another on this list.

Pros

  • Cheapest of our 5 best
  • Best storage
  • Includes cable management

Cons

  • No remote
  • No temperature adjustment
  • Limited heating ability

Classic Flame Windsor Corner Electric Fireplace

The Windsor by Classic Flame makes the list for good reason as well. It is an infrared heater, like the Redden, therefore can distribute heat to a larger area than the Highboy, Cartwright, and Chateau. It is one of the more expensive ones here because of the infrared heater, and the fact that Classic Flame added SpectraFire Plus Flame 3D technology to the fireplace gives it the best customization and presentation among all the electric fireplaces on the list.

It comes with a remote allowing the customization to be easily set up and adjusted to your liking – from the heat to the flame color – you can create an epic ambience that rivals all others. Like the Redden and the Cartwright, the Windsor is a convertible electric fireplace and can be placed in a multitude of corners AND walls.

One problem that sets the Windsor back from the others is that it is the heaviest, coming in at around 135 pounds, or two 45 lb. plates on a standard barbell, either way, it might be a little too heavy if you don’t hit the gym that often. But, Classic Flame created a solid option for anyone that wants a traditional, simple wood finish with top class heating capabilities.

Pros

  • Remote Included
  • Convertible for wall use

Cons

  • Heaviest on the list

Dimplex Colleen

The Colleen by Dimplex is a premium convertible electric fireplace. Construction quality lives up to the Dimplex reputation, as does the impressive realism of the electric fireplace insert. While it isn’t an Opti-Myst model, the XD series are quite spectacular and come without having to top off the water reservoir of the Opti-Myst line.

This unit is convertible meaning that it can be mounted flush against a flat wall or place in a corner with the optional  top piece.

The heater can be toggled off while the flame effect continues to run allowing it to be entertaining in the off season. The addition of the small nook above the fireplace to store electronics comes in quite handy and is ideal for placing a television on the top surface.

Pros

  • Most powerful heater
  • Remote included
  • High quality construction
  • Most realistic looking of the group

Cons

  • Not the best storage
  • Expensive

Southern Enterprise’s Cartwright Convertible Corner Electric Fireplace

Lastly, but not least, ending this list is the Cartwright. Another convertible that you can place against a wall or configure for your favorite corner. Its heat can efficiently reach up to 400 square feet, so again, not as far as the infrared heaters. What stands out is its life-like stone that outlines the fireplace, but at a cheaper cost than Southern Enterprise’s other realistic corner fireplace found at the top of this list.

It comes with multi functionality to twiddle around with almost all aspects of the fireplace, includes a remote, a child safety lock, and a Safety Thermal Overload Protector for added security in case you forget to turn down or turn off the heater. The Cartwright has the attraction of the Redden at a cheaper cost, but has no storage ability, like the Chateau.

Pros

  • Convertible for wall use
  • Remote included
  • Cheaper than the similar Redden

Cons

  • No storage other than the top surface
  • Not the most effective heater

In Conclusion: Best Corner Electric Fireplace – 5 Best – 2018 Review

The Walker Edison’s Highboy and Southern Enterprise’s Redden were the top two on this list according to the price spectrum; the Highboy being the most affordable and the Redden being the best money can buy. In contrast, the other electric fireplaces are on the list because they have advantages of their own not found with the top two. The Cartwright has a realistic look, similar to the Redden, but a little bit cheaper. The Chateau has the classiest and smoothest look, yet no storage. And the Windsor has a very traditional look with sufficient storage space.

Not to say that these are the only 5 you should buy when looking for a fireplace that can brighten up even the dullest corners, there are many that were close to making the list that could be considered as an alternative:

Corinth by Classic Flame

Like the Redden, the Corinth has a quartz infrared heater and is a convertible, as well. The wood is given an intricate design that isn’t seen on any that made the list. It also has the SpectraFire Plus, like the Windsor, life-like resin logs, a glowing ember bed, and a remote. The Corinth could have easily taken a spot on this list, but just didn’t offer as much as the other convertibles and infrared heaters that made the cut.

Ponoma by Holly & Martin

Missing the cut, but not by a large margin, is the Ponoma. With a very similar design to that of the SEI Redden, the Ponoma is a little more expensive and therefore did not make the list. With a collapsible panel the Ponoma has versatility, too, and like many on the list has wall and corner capabilities.

Other candidates that came close but couldn’t light the cigar were the Dimplex Colleen, Dimplex Ebony Convertible , and the SEI Grantham that had the same qualities that the others had but at a more expensive cost.

Each fireplace has their advantages and disadvantages – whether you are focusing on the looks, price tag, its functionalities and capabilities, storage space, if it can be configured to be placed in more areas than just a corner, or how strong the heater is. Since people have different tastes and different needs when searching for the best corner electric fireplace for their living room, den, or bedroom – this list attempts to comprise the top 5 corner electric fireplaces that provide the wants and needs of what the average buyer may be looking for.
